BlindKiss - The Top Ten Gifts for a Blindy This Christmas The Top Ten Gifts for a Blindy This Christmas by The Thinker 10. A cassette recording of a BBC Radio Four comedy series - any series will do as obviously the Blindie, who listens to Radio Four in every spare moment (and he has a lot of those!), will find it instantly recognisable. 9. An inflatable doll - everybody has their sexual needs and you should pity those who are unable to satisfy them in the normal way.Note: This gift is applicable to males only as female Blindies are sweet, innocent, virginal creatures who have never even had an impure thought. 8. A bottle of wine - ensure that the bottle is an unusual shape and the alcohol percentage is low as the average Blindie has poor balance and you would not want to be saddled with a personal injury legal suit for 2003. 7. A large box of chocolates - a useful gift during the protracted and monotonous periods of Radio Four listening. 6. Driving lessons - this is for the Blindie that you really don't like and an absolutely fantastic way to rub it in. Note: ensure that the cost of the lessons is refundable prior to purchase otherwise this may be a rather expensive insult. 5. Pot pourri - do not worry that this gift may offend as Blindies have little or no concern for personal or domestic hygiene but they do love a good smell. 4. Any video where a blind person regains his sight (the inclusion of a love interest is preferable) - this may help to perk up your depressive Blindie over the festive season and make them a bit less annoying around the house. Don't buy this gift if you are expecting videos yourself as they may monopolise the video recorder for weeks. 3. Well known pieces of classical music (cassette not CD for safety reasons) - Blindies are not concerned with popular music, culture or society but a good classical recording will always hit the spot. 2. Silk underwear (generally for the girls only) - A well received gift which you can spend little time choosing as it will never be seen by anyone. 1. A clay model of your own head - this gift is perhaps more for your own benefit because it should ensure that, should the Blindie get the well known urge to feel other peoples faces, they won't start with yours! birthday present than walking
Good birthday presents: "HIV negative"@Everything2.com Near Matches Ignore Exact Good birthday presents: "HIV negative" ( thing ) by consumagenerica (1.3 y) ( print ) ? 1 C! Wed Aug 02 2000 at 11:17:17 When my doctor saw that today was my birthday she asked whether I'd prefer to get the results of the HIV test another day... no way. There couldn't be a better birthday present than walking into her office at 9am and hearing the words "it's negative ". It was the most likely result -- the rape was (physically, at least) non-traumatic so, even though given where I live the chances of my rapist being HIV-positive are about one in four or five, I'd have been unlucky to be infected . I did the whole prophylactic antiretroviral thing anyway -- AZT and 3TC definitely make a person feel like shit -- so my chances of seroconverting were even lower, but it still feels good to have the official word . It's a strange business: I hadn't even realised I was all that worried until she told me. I still don't know exactly what seroconvert means, even, or quite what the difference is between a virus and a retrovirus . I don't know much about the pharmacological action of any of the drugs I had to take, and why it was a good idea for me to take them. I don't know what it would be like to live with HIV, even as a chronic and controllable disease rather than a death sentence, which it could be for me since I'm (just) rich enough. All I do know for sure is that I'm glad not to have it, and even though the cloud is low on the mountain outside and it'll rain a few more times before sunset, it's a beautiful day ... printable version chaos seroconvert AIDS Kills Fags Dead Apparently I am a potential rapist Homosexual equivalent of a pregnancy scare retrovirus How you can become infected with HIV I am a rape survivor AZT I will always remember my 19th birthday 3TC You know you're a geek when... College Gift to Public
Amherst College News Releases: Amherst College Gift to Public Schools Amherst College Site Map Search Amherst College > News & Events > News Releases > Amherst College Gift to Public Schools Amherst College Donates $70,000 to Local Schools July 18, 2005 Contact: Paul Statt Director of Media Relations 413/542-8417 AMHERST, Mass.—Amherst College has donated $70,000 to the Amherst public schools to support the technology needs of schools in the town of Amherst. American colleges and universities need to recognize the fundamental importance of the secondary schools, says Anthony W. Marx, the president of the college. Education is the best tool we have for making the world a better place, and Amherst College is pleased to support the work of education at its foundations. Barry Del Castilho, the town manager of the town of Amherst, says that the gift is part of an effort to close a $1.7 million budget gap facing the town, schools and libraries for fiscal year 2006. Amherst Superintendent of Schools Jere Hochman requested $171,400 to replace, repair and maintain computer and communications equipment for the elementary schools. The college's gift is made in recognition that the college benefits from good schools in the town, says Peter Shea, the treasurer of Amherst College, and fits with our mission of education. Shea says the college likes to target its gifts to the town that way, realizing that it frees up other money for the town to spend on other priorities. Del Castilho puts it this way: By providing support for this more or less specific, high priority item in the elementary schools' capital request, the college's contribution prevents cuts in town, school and library services. Founded in 1821 for the education of indigent young men of piety and talents, Amherst College is now widely regarded as the premier liberal arts college in the nation, enrolling a diverse group of approximately 1,600 young men and women. Well known for its academic excellence, Amherst is also consistently ranked among the very best schools in the country in terms of accessibility: The college's financial aid packages are consistently the most generous in the U.S., and among its peer universities and colleges Amherst has the greatest economic diversity. Diversity, in its broadest sense, is fundamental to Amherst's mission. The college enrolls students from every state and more than 40 countries, and for the past several years more than 35 percent of Amherst's students have been students of color. Amherst offers the B.A. degree in 33 fields of study. ###
