Not only do you have to find great engagement, shower, and wedding gifts, but usually birthday and holiday gifts as well. When a bride is getting hundreds of presents from her registry, it can be hard to figure out other things she wants. Yet never fear, your trusty guide is here to give you ten great things that every bride needs. 1)A Slim Digital Camera When planning a wedding, a bride visits tons of vendors, sites and stores that she'll want to remember. With a slim digital camera in her bag, she'll be able to snap away and remember her options later. The bride planning her wedding with a fiance or mother far away will doubly appreciate the easy ability to digitally share pictures for consideration. 2) A spa gift certificate Every bride I've known was STRESSED out. An inexpensive manicure or pedicure will help her look great at pre-wedding events, tense muscles will love a massage, and a facial will help her skin look fantastic for wedding pictures. Or splurge and get her a full-day of beauty that will allow for maximum relaxation time. I recommend buying a gift certificate from spafinder.com, where the recipient can choose from a variety of spas and treatments. Buy Direct 3)A Book That Will Make Her Laugh Along those same lines, the stressed-out bride needs to laugh. Why not give her a book such as "Diary of a Mad Bride" a comedic tale told in diary format. After pooh poohing her friends engaged mania, suddenly the protaginist finds herself being THAT crazy bride. If that's not her taste, try a wedding comedy movie or tickets to see some stand-up - laughter is, after all, the best medicine. 4)Monogramed Goodies If a bride is changing her name, she'll appreciate getting towels, slippers, or keepsake boxes with her new initials on it. If she's not changing her name, similar items featuring the two initials for her and her fiance's last names will give hints of the new life she'll soon lead. She most likely won't have registered for monogrammed items - most registries that I know of don't have this option - so your gift will be unique. 5)Confirmation of Youth Remind her that getting married doesn't have to mean changing who she is, with a bottle of her favorite whiskey, a gift certificate for sex toys, or a coupon for a girls night out. If she's not a wild girl, give her the same kind of present that you would have given her if she wasn't getting married - she'll still love the sappy movie, or the funky t-shirt. 6)Honeymoon Gift If you know where she's planning on honeymooning, she'll love a helpful guidebook on the spot, or appropriate accessories. (beach blanket for a Carribean honeymoon, cashmere scarf for a ski-resort getaway, etc.) She won't have registered for it, but it will be tremendously helpful. 7)Lingerie Every bride can use some reminders of her beauty and sexiness. Give her some gorgeous lingerie that will help keep the spark alive after the wedding night. Those of you who are conservative can give a beautiful pegnoir set, while adventurous types can opt for skimpy or crotchless panties, latex bras, or, well, you get the picture! 8)Holiday Decorations Today's brides register for furniture, electronics, and camping equipment, as well as the traditional kitchen and entertaining gear. Yet very few brides have the holiday decorations they'll need to start new traditions and recreate old traditions. Whether you give a holiday ornament with both of their names engraved on it, a beautiful menorah, or a cornucopia to create a Thanksgiving centerpiece, your gift will be put to use for years to come. 9)Engagement Memories A newly married couple will have lots of documentation of the wedding day itself, yet few have documentation of planning the wedding. A bride will love a beautiful album with pictures of her shower, a journal for recording her thoughts during the process, or a scrapbook you've put together. Grooms, why not put together a scrapbook of your dating memories? To make it extra special, add tickets or gift certificates so that you can revisit one of the places that made such great memories. 10)A History of Her Fiance's Family She's gaining a whole new set of family members, but she probably doesn't have ANY idea of who they are! A thoughtful gift would be a labeled photo album with all of the new people in her family, or a beautiful groom's family tree (make sure you include the bride!). One morning when former grade-seven teacher Jim Blomfield entered his classroom in Kitchener, Ont., he found it reeking of alcohol. A student clutching a dripping gym bag said: “I brought a bottle of wine for you, sir, but it broke.” Blomfield’s pupil learned first-hand how difficult it is to find the perfect present for a teacher. Of course, teachers don’t expect gifts, but many of us want to acknowledge their hard work. So Today’s Parent asked teachers what tokens they really love receiving. As the end of the school year fast approaches, here’s how to avoid making a gift gaffe: Homemade and Homegrown Foodie teachers relish home-baked and freezable goodies such as banana bread . Others are not as enthusiastic. Says one educator, “It depends on whose clean hands do the baking!” Alternatively, your child can make a date with the teacher and bring in a basket lunch. Try make-your-own sandwiches — pack deli-sliced cheeses and meats, crusty rolls, fresh fruit and juice . Teachers with green thumbs also appreciate the personal touch. “One year I received a potentilla plant from a student,” says grade-five/six teacher Mike Anderson of Fergus, Ont. “I was really impressed that she had remembered I was starting a new garden.” Gourmet goodie. Little chefs love to scoop, pour and measure out the ingredients for this attractive and healthy gift. Buy a 2 cup (500 mL) Mason or screw-top jar. Add ½ cup (100 mL) small pasta, like shells or fusilli. Using a funnel (or a rolled-up cone of paper), pour in ¼ cup (50 mL) each of green split peas, yellow split peas, red lentils and barley — in that order. Let your child pat each layer gently with a gloved hand to flatten. In a small sandwich bag, place two vegetable bouillon cubes, 2 tbsp (30 mL) each of parsley flakes and dried onion flakes, ½ tsp (2 mL) each of thyme and pepper. Screw the lid on the jar and decorate both with stickers and indelible markers. Place in a basket along with the sandwich bag and a 28 oz (793 g) can of diced tomatoes. Write or type instructions on a small card: “In a large soup pot, combine contents of jar (except for pasta), can of diced tomatoes and 7 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then lower heat to simmer. Add contents of spice bag. Continue simmering for about 1 hour and when there’s about a half-hour to go, add pasta. Enjoy!” Punch a hole in the card, thread a ribbon through and tie it around the lid of the jar. creative gift hampers. Giving
Creative gift ideas for Christmas Creative gift ideas for Christmas Creative suggestions for Christmas gift ideas and how to build your own creative gift hampers. Giving gifts is one of the great joys of the Christmas season, however buying and deciding what to give your loved ones and friends can often be hard. Sometimes the best gifts and the most cherished ones, are not the ones that have cost a great deal of money but rather are the ones that have had a little more thought put into them or have been made especially for them by the gift giver. Making your Christmas gifts yourself can be very pleasurable and also can work out more cost effective. You could knit, sew, build, paint or sculpt presents to suit the people you intend to give them to. Understandably not everyone has the patience, the skills or even the time to do these things. Just about anyone though can use his or her imagination and put together an original gift for someone. A great idea is to make a hamper or basket of “goodies” for a gift. Hampers don’t have to be the traditional food hampers but rather could contain anything. Choose the contents to suit the person. For example for a sewing enthusiast, you could make a hamper consisting of sewing essentials such as pins, needles, fabric, tape measure and so on. For a cooking enthusiast you could put together a hamper of all sorts of ingredients and perhaps even throw in a recipe book or a few of your favorite recipes. You could even make a hamper of the practical essentials we all need such as toothpaste, tissues, socks etc. Flower and plant hampers are another great idea. In these you could add the persons favorite dried flowers or potpourri and maybe some different packets of seeds. You can also make hampers for children. The things you could put in these could be the likes of games, toys, pencils, candy and different little nick knacks or stocking fillers that your children may like. Children love getting surprises and enjoy getting lots of little gifts so these kind of hampers work really well for them. When putting together your hampers, try to consider the things that the recipient would like, and add such things to the hamper. Your hampers don’t even necessarily need to follow a theme. Sometimes just lots of little things and odd arrangements of samples work just as well. This is often fun for the person to receive, not to mention fun for you to put together. Be creative in what you put all the “goodies” into too. When we think of hampers, we tend to think of baskets but you could use just about anything. Boxes are a great alternative to baskets, or you could use something that maybe fits in with the theme of your hamper. For instance, if you were making a hamper with a sporting theme, you could use a sport bag or even put it all into a sport hat! Your options are endless and the only limits will be your imagination. Think different and unusual and have fun putting together you gifts. You will enjoy it and the person receiving the gift will appreciate your effort and enjoy it too. © 2002 Pagewise You are here: Essortment Home >> People & Culture >> Holidays:Crafts >> Creative gift ideas for Christmas << Christmas candles Make heirloom quilted Christmas stockings >>
