A simple one-page contract between the donor and a qualified organization such as Skidmore completes the arrangement. Typically, a CGA is funded with cash or securities. In exchange, Skidmore guarantees a specified annuity payment for the lifetime of one or two recipients. An annuity may be funded with a minimum gift of $5,000. Favorable income tax and capital gains tax treatment is also possible. Annuity rates of return depend on the age(s) of the beneficiary(ies) and whether the annuity payments will be immediate or deferred. In a deferred arrangement, annuity payments are delayed until a date (typically a 65th birthday) selected by the donor. It's a great way for younger donors to make a gift now, receive immediate tax benefits, and set up a future source of retirement income at much higher return rates.
