Place microwave popcorn, popcorn boxes, theater-style candy, videos or DVDs and a six-pack of soda in a large basket (figure B) . Add some curly ribbon with popcorn hot glued on to finish it off. Fill a jar with chocolate striped cookies (figure C) and marshmallows. Top with extendable skewers and a bow and you will have all the makings for s'mores. A baby shower gift, such as a cute baby outfit, can be put on a small teddy bear and finished off with a bow (figure D) . Wrap a bridal shower gift in towels and finish off with some pins. The towels are then part of the gift. Use contrasting towels, one for the wrapping and one for the bow. Make a bow out of another towel threaded through a measuring cup set ring and attach with chip clips (figure E) . A beautiful box doesn't need to be wrapped. Just top with a bow and fill the box with cards (figure F) . Take two tall kitchen bags, cut off the ends and tie with decorative hair clips (figure G) . This is great for when you are out of wrapping paper. When Mrs. Emily Post penned her first etiquette book in 1922, she offered a guide to appropriate anniversary gift giving for the first, fifth, tenth, fifteenth, twentieth, twenty-fifth and fiftieth years of marriage. Gifts in the early years of marriage were small remembrances, or tokens, such as paper (1st), wood (5th), and tin (10th). In later years of matrimony, gifts gained value, including crystal (15th), china (20th), silver (25th) and gold (50th). Mrs. Post commented on the light-hearted nature of early anniversary gift giving, saying "the paper, wooden and tin presents are seldom anything but jokes. Crystal is the earliest that is likely to be taken seriously by the gift-bearers." By the time her etiquette tome was reprinted in 1957, Mrs. Post commented on the growing importance of wedding anniversary celebrations in America and the greater trend toward gift giving by family and friends. She reported that the traditional gift list had been expanded to include more anniversary years, and that modern alternatives to traditional gifts had become socially acceptable. The traditional and modern anniversary gift guides have changed very little during the past half-century and include recommended gifts for each of the first fifteen years of marriage and for every five years after that. One gift giver facing the fourteenth anniversary of her sister and brother-in-law was stumped by ivory. For the previous thirteen years, she had used the traditional list as her guide. Giving from the traditional list had, in fact, become her own tradition. She was not about to let it end. After much thought and browsing through stores and on the Internet, she settled on a set of twelve ivory colored dinner napkins in a heavy patterned silk. The gift was a hit and the tradition of giving traditional gifts was maintained. Anniversaries are a special time for the couples who celebrate them. They are made more special by the thoughtfulness of friends and family who remember the couple with gifts --large or small, traditional or modern.
