Amazon.com Sales Rank: #897 in DVD Click here for more technical details about this edition... Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Nothing? Seinfeld is a show about everything! It's about the appeal of the posse and coma etiquette. It's about importing and exporting. It's about sneaking a peek, and seeing the baby. It's about this, that, and the other. TV Guide ranked Seinfeld the best TV series of all time. It has become the master of its syndication domain. Its most devoted fans can quote each episode chapter and verse; their absorption of each scene's minutiae anything but a trivial pursuit. With such fervent devotion to the show, and demand for its DVD release, series creators Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David could have easily just OK'd a bare-bones set containing nothing but the episodes. Not that there would have been anything wrong with that, but instead, the creative team came together to create extensive and encyclopedic features that make this four-disc set buy-worthy. The candid and revealing audio commentaries and interviews, deleted scenes and original episode promos, and optional "Notes About Nothing" pop-ups are as irresistible as a Drake's coffee cake. It's always fun and instructive to return to the humble beginnings of a series that became a pop culture benchmark. Here are Kramer's first not-so-grand entrance, Jerry's first contemptuous "Hello, Newman," and Elaine's first "Get Out!" shove. But what is most revelatory about the episodes from the first two seasons is what Jason Alexander, during his commentary for the episode "The Revenge," calls a "sweet quality" that somehow redeems these characters' more base instincts. The third season's--for want of a better word--the charm. The show has found its misanthropic voice (by season's end, a fed-up Elaine tells herself, "I gotta get some new friends"), the ensemble has a firmer grasp of their characters, and the writers rise to the occasion with episodes that have entered the Seinfeld pantheon, including the Seinfeld equivalent of a Very Special Episode, "The Boyfriend," with Keith Hernandez and the J.F.K. parody, "The Library," featuring Philip Baker Hall channeling Jack Webb as library bookhound Bookman, "The Pez Dispenser," and "The Keys," with an L.A.-bound Kramer winding up on Murphy Brown . Michael Richards, especially, comes into his own this season as Kramer. The first two seasons built up the mystique of this "man-child"/"parasite." So while he was absent in season 2's now-classic "The Chinese Restaurant" (in which Jerry, George, and Elaine wait in vain for a table), he is now out and about with the close-knit, albeit dysfunctional, trio. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has some of her giddiest golden moments, zonked on painkillers in "The Pen," or, as a bored party guest in "The Stranded," telling an obnoxious bride-to-be that "Maybe the dingo ate your baby." And don't get us started on Jason Alexander as George, series co-creator Larry David's neurotic and angst-ridden alter-ego. To paraphrase what Julia Roberts said of Denzel Washington, we don't want to live in a world where Alexander doesn't have an Emmy. The "Inside Look" episode intros offer fascinating insights into this singular show that subverted sitcom convention. We learn that even the most outrageous episodes, such as "The Pez Dispenser," were inspired by real-life events. Especially telling is Alexander's observation that Jerry never really socialized with the other ensemble members. This has extended to the commentaries: Seinfeld pairs with David on some episodes, while Alexander, Richards, and Dreyfus team up on others. They are gracious to the guest stars and extras, and mostly mum on Jer. All of this, of course, is yadda yadda yadda to Seinfeld fans, whose patience for the show's DVD debut has been amply rewarded. As Elaine screams in the third-season episode, "The Subway," "It's not nothing, it's something!" --Donald Liebenson Description Seinfeld Giftset (includes Seasons 1-3, Limited Edition Script, Monk's Salt & Pepper Shakers, Playing Cards) Spotlight Reviews (What's this?) Re-Gift set worth it! , November 27, 2004 Reviewer: Schtinky "Schtinky" (California)- See all my reviews I've noticed that for once both the Product Details sections and the Editorial Review cover the features of this DVD set very well, mentioning all the episdoes and extras, leaving my review free to be short and less boring. If you are a Seinfeld aficionado like I am, get the ReGift set. The script is nice and bound like a book, complete with handwritten notes by Larry David. There are extras on each DVD, all eight CD's from seasons 1,2, and 3. The salt and pepper shakers are great, and complete with a miniature napkin holder too. The playing cards are fun (and useable), with a picture of Kramer on the Joker, Jerry on the Kings, Elaine on the Queens, and George on the Jacks. Season 1 and 2 come in one box, and season 3 in a separate box, each with an separate episode guide inside. This is a very nice set and worth spending the money on. After all that, well, Seinfeld is Seinfeld. Now you can enjoy all the classic episodes we all love without those commercials inbetween from all the taping we use to do on TV. The DVD's offer the option of "Play All" or selecting individual episodes, a feature I really like in program sets. In particular, I really liked the extra called "Kenny to Cosmo" where a picture of the real Kenny Kramer is shown, an old neighbor of Larry David from a long time ago, and the resemblance is striking. Larry David even got the original Kramer to participate in the interveiws on this piece. Great extra. Seinfeld is still one of the funniest shows available, although I watch little to no television, Seinfeld and even its reruns is one of my exceptions. The DVD set is a must for any Seinfeld fan, and a great starter for anyone who is interested in getting deeper into this cult classic. Enjoy! Was this review helpful to you? Another Gift Set Coming Soon! , September 14, 2005 Reviewer: Teiah "Teiah" (Ruralsville, PA USA)- See all my reviews Loved my first Gift Set, which included Seasons 1-3 of the series! I can't wait for November 22, 2005: Sony is releasing the second Gift Pack, which will include Season 5 and 6 (also available as separate seasons). [...] Gift set will include: * Complete Seasons 5, and 6 on Region 1 DVD * An Exclusive Replica of the "Puffy Shirt" that Jerry wore on The Tonight Show. * Reproduction of a hand-written script from "The Pilot" (Episodes 4.23/4.24) by Jerry Seinfeld Seasons 5 and 6 include some of the most hilarious episodes of the entire series: The Puffy Shirt The Bris The Lip Reader The Non Fat Yogurt The Masseuse The Big Salad The Label Maker The Fusilli Jerry And many more. I would have a hard time picking a "favorite season", so I won't do so, but I will say I'm counting off the days until November 22, and I hope Amazon updates their information soon regarding Season 5 and 6 soon. (They currently state there are no plans for the DVD release, but rest assured, it IS coming out in November, [...]); Was this review helpful to you? ( Report this ) You Can Get This Box Set With the 4th Season Instead , September 13, 2005 Reviewer: James N Simpson (Gold Coast, QLD Australia)- See all my reviews It may interest you to know if you have a multizone DVD player or one that can play PAL (European, UK Australian, New Zealand etc) format DVDs that this gift set sold in America with the first three seasons instead comes with the Emmy winning fourth season in these countries. If you already own the first three seasons and just want the playing cards, script, Monk's diner ketchup and mustard bottles salt and pepper shakers than this may be a great alternative than doubling up on the DVDs you already have. I found that although these bonuses aren't of the greatest quality they are a nice bonus and you can use the box they come in to store all the seasons released so far in as they all fit nicely with room left over. In the gift box set or on its own either the 4th season or the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seasons of Seinfeld are a must own on DVD. Was this review helpful to you? ( Report this ) 11 of 14 people found the following review helpful: The box set is only a gimmick. Save your money and buy the DVDs individually , June 27, 2005 Reviewer: Andrew Parodi (Gervais, Oregon United States)- See all my reviews Please note: I am giving a 1-star rating to the overall "Seinfeld Limited Edition Gift Set (Seasons 1-3 with Original Script, Salt & Pepper Shakers, and Playing Cards)." The episodes themselves are great 5-star affairs. I just wanted to give a heads-up to prospective buyers that this box set is a bit of a letdown. The salt and pepper shakers are miniatures that stand about three inches tall, the so-called "original script" is a cheap miniature photocopy of a script (and is hardly legible), and as for it being signed, well, think again. It is not literally signed. What you really get is a photocopy of Larry David's signature on a small and useless photocopy of a script, with photocopies of illegible scribings by David throughout the script. If you want a signed script, I'd suggest looking elsewhere for one that is literally signed in-person and has a Certificate of Authenticity. And the playing cards are small and useless as well. I know this box set is very attractive. Obviously, that's why I bought it myself. But it really is quite a disappointment once you open it up. I recommend buying the DVDs for seasons 1-3 individually. You will save about thirty bucks. Was this review helpful to you? FREE Newsletter. Sign Up Now! Do you need recommendations for golf gifts to give to that businessperson/golfer on your shopping list? Here are some gifts that work great for a golfer's office. 1) Framed Golf Photographs or Art Golf lends itself to great photography. Think dew-covered golf courses at dawn, or a panaroma of a hole at a dramatic course such as Pebble Beach. And there is more golf art - paintings, primarily - out there than you might think. You can see a small sample by clicking the "compare prices" button. For many more ideas, search the web for "golf poster," "golf photographs," or "golf art." Some pro shops carry framed photos, too. Edwin Watts stores usually have a good selection. 2)Antique Golf Equipment Antique golf clubs and balls can be very expensive, if you are seeking a particularly rare item. But many golf balls from the 1890s to the 1930s can be had for good deals. And hickory-shafted golf clubs can be found without breaking the bank. Also, replicas make nice display items for much less expense. The "review" link takes you to an article by About.com Antiques Guide Pamela Wiggins that is a good introduction to golf antiques. Read Review 3)Pro Golf Memorabilia Memorabilia includes autographed photos of stars from the past; programs from long-ago major championships; or even, if you're ambitious, clubs used by a superstar of yesteryear. Browse through the Golf listings in the Sports Memorabilia category at ebay.com to get a sense of what's out there. You might stumble across a fantastic deal. 4) Golf Ball Display Case Golf ball display cases, or shelves, hold anywhere from a dozen to 100 golf balls. They might be logo balls collected from golf courses visited, or any ball that has special significance. Most of them are built to be wall-mounted. You can also find display cases or plaques built to hold just a single ball - one used to record a hole-in-one. 5) Putting Mat It might be best if the person receiving this gift has the boss' office. Any businessperson who can get away with using a putting mat in his or her office is lucky, indeed. But we've known many office workers who keep a putter in their office; this is the logical next step. 6)Scorecard Display A scorecard display is similar to the golf ball display: it allows scorecards of special significance to be displayed in a formal manner. Sometimes that means a nice frame to be wall-mounted; other times it means a wooden display or a plaque. Do a web search for "golf scorecard display," "golf scorecard plaque," or "golf scorecard frame" to find ideas. 7) Golf Calendar We're thinking specifically of those desk calendars that come with a something-a-day. You know: joke a day, tip a day, quote a day. If you just need a stocking stuffer, or if you're in an office gift exchange, a golf desk calendar is something cheap that might actually be used. 8)Desk Knick-Knacks "Knick-knacks" covers quite a bit of ground, eh? What we're talking about are things such as business card holders, pen sets and so on: the little accessories found on a businessperson's desk. Many of these things are easily found with a golf theme. Just visit your local mega-pro shop (Edwin Watts, Golfsmith, etc.), or search online golf shops or Amazon. Many of them are cheap and small, making good stocking stuffers. 9) Golf Ties Do you really want to get someone a tie? If so, why not make it a tie with a golf theme? Businessmen need ties, after all. Some of them look better than you'd think, while others, well, look exactly like what you'd think. Our "compare prices" button will show you a few examples, but golf ties are pretty easy to find at major menswear stores or major golf shops. 10) Coffee-Table Book Coffee-table books about golf usually focus on golf courses, great golfers from the past, or golf antiques, with big, glossy photos being the main draw. If the person you are shopping for has books displayed in his or her office, and loves golf, then a golf coffee-table book might be a good choice. The "compare prices" button will show you nearly 2,000 golf books through which you can browse to find the good stuff. Important product disclaimer information about this About site. Birthday Gift Try to
How to Wrap a Birthday Gift - eHow.com Clear Instructions on How To Do (just about) Everything Web eHow.com Home Family & Relationships Center Family Life How to Wrap a Birthday Gift Try to be as creative as possible when wrapping a birthday gift. Keep the gift recipient's age, likes and dislikes in mind when choosing the colors and types of materials used in your wrappings. Follow these instructions to wrap most gift boxes. Steps: 1. Choose a wrapping paper appropriate to the gift recipient. Is the gift for a child's birthday? Your grandmother's birthday? Does the recipient have a favorite color? There are wrapping papers available to suit any gift recipient. 2. Choose coordinating ribbon, and either purchase a premade bow or make your own. See "How to Tie a Decorative Bow" in Related eHows for instructions. If you decide to make your own bow, purchase additional ribbon. 3. Gather your materials and lay them out on a flat work surface. A kitchen or dining room table works best, but be sure not to scratch the table's surface when cutting the wrapping paper. 4. Use a string or a tape measure to determine the dimensions of your gift box. For a rectangular box, measure around the box as if you were measuring a waist. Add 2 inches to this dimension, and jot down this number. 5. Measure the length of your gift box. Measure the height of the box, multiply that number by two and add the total to the length measurement. Write this number down. 6. Use a ruler or yardstick to cut a piece of wrapping paper to the dimensions calculated in Steps 4 and 5 and place wrapping paper face down on your work surface. 7. Position package, top down, onto paper so that you are able to bring lengthwise edges of the wrapping paper to the middle of the box. Center the gift box. 8. Bring one lengthwise edge of wrapping paper to the center of the box. Secure with tape. Turn the opposite edge of paper under approximately 1 inch and bring this to the center of the box as well. The turned-under edge should overlap the first taped edge. 9. Position box so that one short end is facing you. Grasp left and right edges of wrapping paper and push the sides in so that top and bottom flaps are formed. Make sure that the edges are pushed in as far as they will go without ripping the paper. Secure pushed-in edges to box with tape. 10. Bring upper flap down against the side of the box, making sure that flap is sharply creased at its folds. Secure flap against box with tape. Bring lower flap up against the side of the box. Crease and secure as you did for the upper flap. Repeat for opposite end of box. 11. Position package so that the seamless side is up. Affix ribbon and bow as desired. Tips: Consider using comics or newspaper to wrap your gift; or stamp or paint appropriate designs onto plain white or brown Kraft paper. Choose transparent cellophane tape for your gift-wrapping needs. This will give your package a more tidy appearance than can be achieved with other types of tape. Secure lengthwise edges with tape all along the box length - at the middle and both ends. Use several short pieces of tape rather than one long piece. Use a fabric-lined basket or a drawstring fabric bag to wrap your gift if it will not fit in a box. Warnings: Check the label on any package of gift-wrapping paper to make sure there's enough paper inside to wrap your gift box. If you are wrapping a very large box or several gifts, you may need to purchase more than one package. Don't choose gift-wrapping paper that comes folded into precut squares. It has deep creases, which can give your package a crumpled, untidy appearance. Opt for paper that comes on a tube instead. Don't forget to remove the price tag before wrapping your gift.
