FREE Newsletter. Sign Up Now! Fun and easy shower gifts to make! Baby showers are probably my favorite event to attend. They are usually full of love and joy and you get to look at lots of cute baby clothes. I also love to give baby shower gifts. I think it's a lot of fun to put together something special for every new little one.
Sometimes I go and pick out things from a gift registry that I think the mother will enjoy or something that has made my days as a mother easier or more interesting. Though my favorite thing to do is to make something for the new baby. Here are a couple of ideas for quick and easy gifts for mom and baby, regardless of the sex of the baby or the theme of the shower!
Gift Basket
I usually choose a large, hollow item to fill with little things. A diaper pail or an infant bath tub are inexpensive and work very nicely. If you're looking for something smaller, try a bathroom bucket/caddy. It's also great for carrying the baby's small bath items around.
You can stick with the bath theme and fill it with bath items. Here are some examples:
Soap
Lotion
Towels
Rubber Duck (with or without thermometer)
Wash cloths
Brush and Comb
Some people prefer the health and safety approach for this gift. Some ideas for that category include:
Thermometer
First Aid Kit
Electrical Plug Covers
Finger Nail Clippers
Emergency Aid Cards
Child Proofing Book
Door Locks
Diaper Cream
Infant Fever Reducer
I also have days where eceltic is my style. Here are some other gift items that go well in these types of gifts:
Diapers
Rattles
Onsies
Toys
Baby Books
Nursing Pads
Bottles
Bibs
You really don't have to spend very much on these gifts, most are a dollar or two each. You can also find some nice, but inexpensive baby toys at dollar stores everywhere, including bibs!
If you don't have a large hollow tub or bucket you can also do a fancy party bag. Some people choose to individually wrap each gift, while attractive it can take a long time. I always put tissue on the top and let mom sort through as quickly as she likes.
Diaper Cake
This item is for those who are a bit more talented, though with practice it shouldn't be too difficult! The results are a delighful looking "cake" made of diapers and toys.
Items you will need:
Diapers (large pack of disposables or 12 cloth)
Cardboard (Some choose to use a bottle of infant laundry soap.)
Small gifts (rattles, toys, teethers, brush, etc.)
Clear Tape or Rubber Bands
Ribbons
Cake "Topper" (Usually a small stuffed animal, can be left off.)
Directions: Use the cardboard or laundry soap as a base, wrap diapers around it to form a bottom cake "layer."
You can secure the diapers with tape or rubber bands. Start a second "layer" making it smaller than the first. You can do as many layers as you would like, I've only done two, but I have seen three done.
When you're done with that you can take your smaller items and tie them up with ribbon and tuck them into the layers of the diaper folds, making them appear as if they are a part of the cake. If you'd like secure a small stuffed animal on top of the cake as a topper.
This makes a great gift as well as a center piece for a shower. It was a lot of fun to do, but it took two people to make it look right.

How to Buy a Baby Shower Gift - eHow.com Clear Instructions on How To Do (just about) Everything Web eHow.com Home Holidays & Traditions Center Special Events How to Buy a Baby Shower Gift Baby shower gifts can be simple or elegant, traditional or creative and personal. Select with creativity and care - the possibilities are endless. Steps: 1. Check the registry. These days, many moms-to-be register for baby items they know they will need. 2. Use your experience as a parent (or ask someone you know who has kids): What could you not live without during the first year? 3. Investigate the needs of the new parents. Do they need a front carrier, a baby backpack or a stylish diaper bag? 4. Go in with a group to purchase baby furniture or strollers. Send these the minute you know a baby is expected, or tell the parents you plan to buy them. 5. Monogram a silver baby mug, baby silverware or a silver picture frame. 6. Buy child-sized jewelry: a nametag bracelet or bangle; a heart necklace for a girl; or an ID bracelet, tie bar or cufflinks for a boy. 7. Choose clothes in size 3 months or larger. A baby usually has a first outfit and will quickly outgrow newborn sizes. Include gift receipts if possible. 8. Start the baby's library with a classic hardbound book. Put a nameplate in the front cover for a personal touch. 9. Evaluate your spending limits. If you don't want to spend more than $50, opt for an outfit, a special blanket or a baby grooming kit, complete with clippers, diaper ointments and shampoo. 10. Stay away from equipment that's on sale, unless you know the parents want a particular item. There might be a reason it is on sale. 11. Give the baby a savings bond as a big gesture. Tips: When the sex of the baby is unknown, opt for gender-neutral colors such as yellow, white and green. Crib quilts are personal, so ask if there is a planned pattern, or make one for a unique gift. Forgo the thoughtful, yet unnecessary gift for Mom. Although it's a nice gesture, she will probably be embarrassed by the attention - after all, the shower is for the baby. Tips from eHow Users: Don't take a chance on the sex! by Anthony N. Even parents who think they know their babies sex from an ultrasound can't be 100% sure. So, don't presume and buy pink frilly dresses or overalls with trains. Rate this tip: Help the parents with diaper changes... by Annette S. Diapers are a necessity that parents will appreciate from the time their little bundle comes home from the hospital til the child is ready to begin potty training. Ask guests to bring a bag of diapers (newborn and older because babies grow rapidly). The parents will be appreciate this gesture because diapers can get expensive and they are used in bulk Warning: be aware of mom's allergies that may be evident with baby. Ask mom whether To be on the safe side, buy hypoallergenic, alcohol, perfume & dye free diapers and wipes. birthday present. Me and
My Birthday Present My Birthday Present At A Glance Author rebecca Contact rreilly12@hotmail.com When It just happened Artist andres Studio monster Location san pedro, costa rica My birthday was on April 12th, but I found that I couldn't celebrate it as I was at the time involved in "Hairspray", my high school's musical for the year. My schedule was very hectic and I found that I had forgotten my birthday, and so had my parents. And so time passed, I finished the musical, and I decided that I wanted to give myself a birthday present. Me and some other friends involved in Hairspray found ourselves with nothing to do seeing as all of our time had been spent rehearsing. Yesterday I went with my friend Erica to the mall, and we planned on seeing a movie. We looked at our options for a movie, but our options consisted of idiotic movies, such as Miss Congeniality 2 and Son of the Mask, so we wandered around the mall for a while, had a few cigarettes, and then wandered some more. We were completely bored by this time, but I had to be there until 10:30 to wait for my younger sister who was there with her friends. Suddenly, Erica mentioned the fact that she had always wanted a labret piercing, and I decided on the spot that we should go and get pierced right now, that very day and get back to the mall in time to pick up my sister. I immediately called a cab so that we couldn't back out of it. We waited for the cab and shared a cigarette to calm our nerves, as my hands were already shaking and she said that she had the butterflies. I could relate. We were sitting in the cab and I tried to decide which piercing I would get. I wanted to get a vertical labret, but I had promised another friend that we would do that together, so that was automatically out. My tragus? I had already done my inner conch, and I wasn't in the mood to take care of another thick cartilage piercing in my ear. My nipples are also on the waiting line, but I'm waiting for my best friend to come down so that he can be there. Then it struck me... I should get my nose pierced! My father would kill me. This was to be my first facial piercing and I didn't know how he would react. However, my mother would most likely scold me, but secretly like it. So I decided just to go for it. I was doing it for me. It was my birthday present to myself. We stepped into the mall and I took Erica to Monster, a small store which sells clothes as well as does piercings and tattoos. I always loved the vibe of the store. I walked up to Andres and greeted him. I told him that I would like my nose done and that Erica wanted her labret. Erica wanted to go first because she was afraid that if she saw me do it first, she would chicken out. I'm glad it turned out that way because labret piercings hurt much less than nose piercings, and I didn't want her to be afraid. This was her first major piercing. So I held her hand as he did her piercing. It was done very quickly, and I was up. I sat on a metal stool and waited for him to retrieve the sterilized jewelry. A new needle in a package was produced, as well as many other utensils, including a toothpick so he could mark me. When he did, he asked me to look in the mirror to check and see if I liked it. It looked a bit high up to me, but he was the professional so I just let it go. He took out the needle and I gripped Erica's hand. I closed my eyes, and I felt him place the needle on my nose and break the first layer of skin. "Take a deep breath, and exhale." I was sweating. It was hot in the store, but I knew that I was responsible. "Inhale, Exhale." I tightened my grasp on Erica's hand. "Now take a deep breath and hold it!" Oh no! Panic sets in. He shoved the needle through my nose and man, did it HURT! My eyes were watering and my nose was burning. Then the burning subsided and I opened my eyes. I saw that in the mirror there was a needle sticking out diagonally in my nose. It looked so incredible! But then came the part that I feared the most. I've read on BME that putting the jewelry in hurts the most. It was worse than I expected. I think that the jewelry hurt more than the actual piercing. I was on the second day of my period, so my nose wouldn't stop bleeding. Andres explained it, but I can't quite recall his reasoning. I was too happy to pay proper attention. So Erica and I paid and then went to take pictures of our fresh piercings. I'm looking forward to taking care of it and waiting for it to heal so that I can change the stud. I would have preferred a ring, but that would most definitely be out of the question, both at school and with my parents. Now that I look at it in the mirror, I wish that I had told him to move it a bit lower down, but everybody thinks that it looks good where it is.
