Answered By: nenna-ga on 23 Aug 2005 12:32 PDT Hello Leoni1234-ga,I have found 2 gifts in your price range that I think would be unique.A personalized beer mug with their name and the date, which you couldadd a bottle of beer along with for the reception or your time withthe boys before the wedding. http://www.ashmontengraving.com/product/013141.shtml You could also do an engraved Yo-yo as a gift though it is about 2.49more per person than the 20.00 you mentioned. http://www.ashmontengraving.com/product/012574.shtml Google Search:Unique groomsmen gifts http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=unique%20groomsmen%20gifts&btnG=Google+Search If this answer requires further explanation, please requestclarification before rating it, and I'll be happy to look into thisfurther.Nenna-GAGoogle Answers Researcher Comments Log in to add a comment Subject: Re: Unique Groomsmen Gifts! I don't think they were leathermanbrand, but something similar. A search for Mini Leatherman shouldlead you to where these can be purchased (My bro got his atSportmart). I think he got them for around $19 each. Everyone in hiswedding party still carries/uses the tool all the time.If you go this route - I would recommend getting the plain silverones, as the color/painted ones seemed to fade/chip over time. birthday present. May: (Dejectedly)
The Best Present in the World The BestPresent in the World The following Readers' Theatre script was adapted from "The very best present in the world" written by PenelopeBender. It was rewritten by Pansy Koh Hwee Lin, Kow Hui Meng,Jamunah Rani and Lam May Yuen to suit the Singapore context. Narrator: Today is her mother's birthday and May isvery troubled because she does not have enough money to buy her muma present. May: 75, 80, 85 cents. (Sigh!) This is only enough tobuy the bottlecap of Mummy's favourite Chanel No. 5 perfume. What am I going to do? Narrator: May flips through the New Paper and saw a hugeadvertisement. May: (Reading the newspaper aloud) Guess the number ofCoke cans contest. 12 - 3 p.m. Grand prize: $200. Winner will beannounced at 3:30 p.m. today. Wow! That's just what I need... if only I could win ... Narrator: May went down to Cold Storage to join thecontest. May: What a huge crowd gathering around the contestarea! Wait a minute. Isn't that my classmate, Janice? Narrator: May walked up to Janice. May: Hi, Janice, what are you doing here? Janice: Hi, May! I came to join the contest. May: Me too. I'm going to get the contest formnow. See you later! May: (Thinking aloud) Gosh! There are rows and rows ofCoke cans piled up high like a pyramid. How am I going to startcounting them? Narrator: After hesitating for a very long time, May finallydecided to make her guess. May: I think I'll write 9,999 cans on the contestform. Please God ... please let that be the lucky number! Narrator: After dropping the entry form into the box, Maywaited impatiently for the results to be announced. At 3:30 p.m.,the emcee stood up and announced that the number of Coke cans wasNine thousand, nine hundred ... May held her breath ... andninety-nine. May: I won! I won! Narrator: May collected her prize joyfully. As she walkedout of Cold Storage, she met Janice again at the bus-stop. May: Oh, Janice! I won the grand prize! I'm goingto Takashimaya now to get a present for my mum. It's herbirthday. Janice: (Sadly) I'm very happy for you. May: (Concerned) But, you don't sound very happy. Is anythingwrong? Janice: (Sobbing) My ... my ... mother is very ill at home and shecan't get out of bed. I went to the clinic near my house butDr. Tan would not make house calls unless I pay $200. Butwe've no money. I'm really afraid of losing mum. She's all I have since daddy passed away. May: (In deep thought) Oh, dear! That's terrible. (A shortpause) What do you intend to do? Janice: I don't know. Narrator: May gazed at the prize money in her purse. After deliberatingfor a short while, she pressed the money into Janice'shands. May: Here, take this. Go and get Dr. Tan right away! Janice: But ... but ... you need this for your mum's birthdaypresent. May: Don't worry, it's okay. She'llunderstand. Janice: Oh! Thank you so much! Thank you so much! I'm sure my mumwill pay you back when she gets well. Narrator: Janice rushed back to her mum while May walked home slowly. Sheis happy that she had done a good deed but worried about hermother's birthday present. May: (Dejectedly) What should I do? I still don't have anypresent for Mum's birthday. Guess I'll just make a cardfor her. The card won't mean much without a present but ...it'll have to do. Narrator: That night, at the birthday party, May'sbrother gave their mother a gold necklace and her sister gave hermum a Versace bag. May: Mummy, I wanted to give you a present, but thiscard is all I have. Mother: But, May ... You've already given me apresent. Janice called and told me what you had done. You see, sweetheart, all the presents in the world wouldn't mean asmuch to me as knowing that you've understood what I'vebeen teaching you. May: What's that, Mummy? Mother: How to love, May. And that's the bestpresent in the whole world that any child could ever give to aparent. May: Do you mean it, Mummy? I wanted so much to giveyou the very best present in the world. Mother: Of course, I do, sweetheart. You have indeed givenme the very best present in the whole world and I'm veryproud of you! May: Oh ... Oh! Mummy, I'm so happy! Continued from Previous Page Smokes and Spirits If your golfer likes to take a nip on the links - something we don't recommend, but realize many golfers do - this Pewter Embellished Golf Hip Flask ($24.95 at TGW.com) might be the thing. Many golfers like to fire up a stogey on the course. If your golfer is one of those, take a look at these Cigar Pounches & Cutters ($15, various merchants). They'll keep the cigars fresh (and in one piece) until ready for lighting. If your golfer's kitchen is already gaudy, a little more gaudiness won't hurt. So check out the Golf Club Wine Rack ($69.95 at TGW.com). And take a look at these golf-themed Gift Baskets . Organizers & Travel Bags The Golf Organizer with Bench ($119 through Amazon.com) provides storage space for two bags and shoes, plus accessories, with a small bench in the middle. A less expensive model ($59.99), sans bench, is available at Sears. In a similar vein, the Top Flite Golf Trunk Locker ($39.99 at Target) goes in the trunk of the car and carries shoes, hats, jackets, balls, tees and more. For golfers who do a lot of flying, a Golf Travel Bag is a must. If your travelling golfer doesn't have one, they probably could use one. Practice Aids Practice aids and training aids are a dime a dozen (OK, they're actually quite a bit more expensive than a dime a dozen, but we just mean they are ubiquitous). But here are two items that are cheap but sure to be put to good use. AlmostGolf Balls are practice balls that mimic the flight of real golf balls - but are made from a foam material so as to be safe for use around buildings (think backyard practice). They are much more useful than wiffle balls. For a cheap training aid that, used correctly, will be more useful than 95-percent of the gadgets out there, try the On Mark Game Improvement in a Can ($8.95 at TGW.com). It sprays a yellow dye onto the golf clubface so that golfers can track - and work on improving - their points of contact. Gifts For Women
10 Valentine's Day Gifts For Women 10 Valentine's Day Gifts For Women Valentine's Day is the perfect holiday to put extra thought into your gift giving. Women love to know their partners are not only spending their money, but theirthoughtful written all over them. One of them is bound to please the woman in your life. Of all the holidays in the year, Valentines Day is the one to truly make the thought count when it comes to gift giving. It is all about her. Take yourself out of the equation. If its something you will love, chances are its not a gift exclusively for her. I shouldnt even have to say this by now, but please no sexy lingerie! So before you rush off to the mall, take a look around your womans surroundings, her favorite places in her home. You may think you know her, but a fresh look is always time well spent. One well thought out gift can erase from her memory her horror when you gave her a box of low fat chocolate, or the slinky lingerie three sizes too big. Its neither all about pretty nor all about practical. Its not about expensive or cheap. Again, its the thought and effort put behind the gift. As you plan your gift, practice a little imagery. Imagine her opening up your gift. Prove to her that you know her, what makes her heart go pitter patter, her eyes well up with happy tears, her face beam with delight. Still cant think of a great gift? Allow me. Here are ten thoughtful Valentines Day gifts. Books, CDs, books on tape, videos. Again, take a long look at what she already has in her bookshelf, in her music collection. Dont be afraid to ask the store clerk either. You already know her tastes, right? But store associates know whats hot or even what classics are most sought after even if you dont. Music or dance lessons. Does she not so secretly express her desire to compete on American Idol? Do you catch her singing into a hairbrush in the mirror? Does she fawn when PBS airs the international ballroom dancing competition? A romantic meal at home. Notice I didnt say you had to cook it? Restaurants are now making it easier than ever to pick up a meal on the go. There are also some excellent frozen entres in your grocers freezer. The famous chef to the stars, Wolfgang Puck even has a line of frozen gourmet dishes. Dont forget dessert. Either way, make it easy, put out the best china and silverware, and do not leave a mess in the kitchen! Cushions and pillows. Nothing says lovin like a little luxury. Does she sit in a chair most of her day? Or does she like to sit in bed and read magazines? Give her a top of the line back or bootie cushion. Go to a store that specializes in orthopedic or ergonomic products. This thoughtful gift will remind her how you care about her comfort. Gadgets. Gadgets arent just for guys anymore. What about a cool camera phone? Or an MP3 player? Or, if and only if, shes already an exerciser, visit your local sporting goods store and check out the latest device designed to help her accomplish her fitness goals, maybe a talking pedometer. Dont forget the card and words to the effect of, I love it that youre taking care of yourself. I want us to be healthy and happy for a long time. Shoes and a day of shoe shopping together. No matter if shes the diva type or the earthy type, a good pair of shoes can put a smile on a womans face for a long time. Look, theres no way in heck youre going to be able to pick out a pair of shoes. I dont suggest trying it. Dont even buy a gift certificate. You cant limit her to just one choice of store! Instead, put it in writing that you will accompany her in good spirits to as many shoes stores as necessary in a 24 hour period for her to find a pair of shoes she will truly love. 24 hours of personal service---housekeeper, cook, masseuse, butler, secretary, and chauffeur. We should all have the feeling that our every whim is being catered to at least once a year. You might wake her with breakfast in bed, then run a bubble bath for her, and bring her the morning paper. While she reads her favorite magazine, you are dusting and mopping and cleaning the house from top to bottom. Remember, its the spirit that you undertake the chores with that will make the biggest impression, so dont forget to whistle while you work! Make an appointment with a professional to have something fixed about you. Yes, I said it, the f word. Are your teeth needing some repair, have you been putting off an uncomfortable but necessary health screening? Now some will say, How romantic is that? But she will know that youre finally listening to her and taking care that youll stay healthy for her, and that, my friends, is happiness money can never buy. Of course, youll need to give her the news over a romantic candlelight dinner. Selection of gift certificates from her favorite stores, the stores where she buys things for other people. If she likes that expensive coffee place, thats a good start. Take a walk around her favorite mall without her. Her spirit will guide you and before you know it, youll be thinking youre a genius for being so thoughtful! Professional photo session. You know how shes always the one making memories from your everyday life? Shes the photographer, rarely the photographed. Give her a session with a professional photographer. Now we know the most popular form of this gift is from that place where glamorous shots are taken and tons of makeup is applied semi-professionally. Again, know your woman. If thats not her style, then find a local photographer who will photograph her naturally or however way she truly wants to be seen. Now if youre a traditionalist and these ideas have your head spinning, then go ahead and throw in a bouquet of flowers and a shiny box of chocolates. It never hurts to have a backup! Author: Sandra Webber About Author: Ellen Webber is a freelance writer with many years experience receiving Valentines Day gifts through the years. Here are some more thoughts that viewers have sent in: I have a home daycare with kids the ages of 0-7. Some christmas gift we have made are. Handprint wreath on burlap with a wooden dowel to make it a banner. I just painted the kids hands green and helped them place it in a circle then I painted their thumb red to make berries. I also took blue felt and painted their feet white and had them stand on the felt then painted their hands white and and placed them out next to the top of their feet. This makes an angel. We also glued fake doll hair on the balls of the feet and wiggle eyes under the hair. We have also traced their hands onto fusible web then fused the hand prints to different types of christmas fabric, then I cut out the handprints and fused them to a piece of Christmas fabric in the shape of a tree with the hands pointing downward. I also made this product a banner with a dowel. Another idea I had is to trace my kids hands out of constructions paper and put it in the center of the plate and on the edge put their name and the date. I think that would make a great Christmas gift for grandparents. One idea that worked very well was to make the child's handprints in dough that is bakeable ( self-hardening ). Put the year and child's name on it along with a hanger on the back. I had a parent call me when she opened the gift on Christmas day, in tears. Said it was the best thing she could have every gotten because although she always wanted to do this, she put it off and had we not done it, her child would have grown up before she did it herself.
