It can be hard to find sets that aren't based on movies or cartoons (grrrr) but they're out there. Magic School Bus anything. Space seems to be big with most kids. We have a zillion glow in the dark stars and planets that look like they do through a microscope in the boys' room. Throw in a cheap black light and you're a hit. And beading kits with some super-excellent beads. They love it and will probably make you something beautiful. Jazz is into sea theme beads right now but he always goes back to wood or colourful glass and clay. Games are big- Kerplunk and Snakes and Ladders get used alot because the little brother can play but Jasper's favourite is chess. Any help? Porst « Coffee break • Main • In the paper » Birthday Present ¶ 166 words This morning Leif and me went shopping for a birthday present for Carola , who is having starting her quarter life crisis now as well. Well it was frustrating. We wanted to get a Rolodex file - but thought over 50 were a bit steep for a few bits of metal, plastic and paper. So, with time running out, we simply panicked. After lunch Stephie and me went on another trip and we got a nice large cooking knife. A very nice one indeed. Chopping vegetables is a lot of fun with it. In the shop we could try out the different knives on the salesperson’s lunch - which sort of compensated for the frustration. By now it seems, giving the knife was a good idea - so it was worth the hassle. We had a cake party this afternoon - I made a baked cheese cake and there were many other cakes as well. Later we ordered some pizza. Now I feel a bit sick. These are things to do or buy that are guaranteed to move Mother's Day far beyond the usual flowers and chocolates. Go Ahead: Make My (own) Bed It's a gift mom Margot O'Toole treasured for weeks, even though it was nothing she could sniff, swallow, or try on. One Mother's Day morning, her young son Brendan simply announced that effectively immediately, he would begin to make his own bed every day.And he did, at least, for a matter of weeks. It meant more to Margot than all the cards and flowers received before or since. Take Out and Hang Out Claire Cahill, mother of three-year-old triplets Meaghan, Kimberly and Matthew, remembers the year she and her husband tried to take all three babies - and her mother - out to eat on Mother's Day.
